Learn To Bargain with Airport Parking Fees

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

You will find two types of people in this world: The first type drives up to airport in style, turn up before the ticket machine and cough up the parking price at a turn-up rate. There is another group of people who bothers to do their home work and pre book airport parking and this is this latter group of people that gain monetarily. How? Simply because, the turn-up parking fees are almost 30% higher than the pre booking fees in almost all leading airports in the world.

So pre booking of airport gives you a definite financial edge over the others and help you to save on your total travel expenses. But you can reduce your expenses in the area of parking even more and that is by learning the tricks how to bargain effectively to grab the best deal. Here are some of the bargaining secrets that will help you to seal the best deal in airport parking at any corner of the world.

Why not take the help of web? You have already made good researches on the internet to find out discount hotels, cheap flights, budget car rentals and what not! Then apply your searching skill to find out the best airport parking rate too. There are a number of websites that will pop up before your eyes to flood you with the price charts and online comparison tools. So shop around to find out the best possible quote.

If you want to get better result from the researches you can take help of the aggregator, a web company that will save your efforts on making researches on the airport parking rates. They will give you result on the basis of their price comparison of different car parks but without any bias towards a particular car park.

But taking aggregator’s help has one limitation and that relates to the fact that aggregators will not provide you the rates of all the car park companies operating in a particular airport. They will offer you the rates of those companies which they have agreement with.

To overcome this limitation, stage a simultaneous search on the internet to compare the quotes of multiple companies at a time. You can also approach the parking companies in an airport directly; most of them have their own websites and will offer you a competitive rate for pre booking.

However the best part of the bargaining is to get what you pay for plus seizing extra something that you do not pay for. This happens when you bargain for the space in VIP lounge. Just think of the luxury of relaxing in the VIP lounge in the middle of waiting for the connecting flight! So try to grab such extras as VIP lounge pass, a service of a chauffer or facility of parking under cover and so on. Believe me; in most of the airports a pre booking rate along with these extra will cost lot less than the fees at a turn up rate.

More Hybrid Cars for Rental Fleets Say Travelers

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Priceline.com is yet another online source for automotive tidbits and as a part of Earth Day which happens this April 22nd, the group has already done a survey. This new study has focused more on consumers of rental car companies and what they have been aiming to find out is what kind of vehicles do these consumers really want to see as part of rental fleets.

After the survey was done and all the statistics were evaluated, priceline.com was able to find out that 72 percent of all respondents said that they would like to find rental car companies who do offer hybrid vehicles which are not only economical but would be friendly to the environment. Of course, this group also did say that they would like to find hybrid vehicles that run on both electricity and gasoline.

Of the 764 consumers who took part of priceline.com’s study, 71 percent did also state that they are very much willing to rent out a hybrid vehicle especially if they would be traveling to other states. A good 48% of the total respondents did also disclose that even if they would have to shell out for a premium payment for the hybrid, they would gladly do so.

It is of course a reality that there are quite a few hybrid vehicle models available through most of the country’s rental car companies. And because of such, there would be a higher demand for the vehicles though the supply may be quite low. And as according to the study, more consumers would even be willing to shell out an additional $1 to $3 per day on the rent of the vehicle and it would mean that it would also more and more consumers are thus inclined to greener vehicles rather than ordinary vehicles like the Honda Civic or the Ridgeline which comes equipped with the Honda cold air intake. Although this may be so, there is a small amount of consumers, amounting to eight percent of the total, who did mention that they are even willing to shell out $4 to even $6 per day of renting out a hybrid.

How do You Use Toll Roads in Melbourne, Australia With a Rental Car?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Anyone who has visited Australia will tell you that the best way to visit this stunning country is by car. When traveling by car, most visitors will use a rental car. If you have never driven in Australia, you need to be aware of the toll roads. When traveling in Australian cities such as Melbourne, there are toll roads such as the City Link Toll Roads.

In Melbourne, City Link and the Exhibition Street Extension consist of eight designated toll zones where a vehicle’s driver receives a toll for using the particular roadway. Electronic tolling allows drivers to use City Link without slowing or stopping to pay tolls and helps to maintain a steady flow of traffic on the expressway. If you use these tolls while driving a rental car, you will have to register with the Link operator, City Link Melbourne. You do this by opening a toll account or buying a Day Pass. If you choose to open account, you will be given a wireless device called an e-TAG. You then install this device on the rental car’s windscreen.

The e-TAG contains an individual number stored in electronically. The e-TAG works as the car passes through the toll area, it is sense by a scanner that is installed above the roadway and the identifying number is recorded. This identification number is connected to the driver’s toll account in the central tolling computer system which is located in South Melbourne.

As the car passes through the tolling system, a toll is deducted from the driver’s toll account. It is comparable to using a bank debit card. City Link Melbourne oversees the management of the toll road system. The funds in account can be added using a debit card, credit card, check, cash, and Bpay. The e-TAG only contains the identification number, not the driver’s name, address, or license plate number.

One cannot get away with not paying at a toll toad. There are video real time security cameras which will take a picture of the car’s front license plate and the driver will be located and fined. If you have a rental car, the rental car company will charge your card for any fine that you incur. When a passing vehicle fails to properly display the tag, advanced image processing comes into play.

When one rents a car in Australia, they are responsible for road tolls payments. Many car rental companies will have the device installed in their cars so one just has to open the account. The rental car company will explain how the toll system works and how to obtain an electronic pass. Some rental cars will already have the account and charge you for the tolls you used after you return the rental card,

If you only have a cah on you when going through a toll booth in Australia, locate the sign that says ‘exact toll’ or ‘change’ toll to ppay at the approptiate booth. Cas tolls are gradually being eliminated from toll booth systems so it a good idea to purchase an electronic method of paying at the toll roads. If you don’t have the exact toll amount, look for the booths marked ‘change.’

When driving a rental car in Melbourne, Australia, make sure you have acquired the right payment method to use at the toll roads.
