About Car Rental Under 25
If you are looking to rent a car, there are many things you need to consider and information you need to give to the car rental company. Some of these things will entitle you to either an additional fee or a discount. For example, government workers and military personnel are entitled to discounts, whereas drivers under the age of 25 nearly always are charged an additional fee based solely on their age.
Car rental under 25 years of age is not as cheap as for those over 25. This is because the risk involved in the younger age group is so significantly higher, that car rental companies have to take it into consideration when renting to that lower age group.
In most cases and with most car rental companies there is a minimum age requirement to rent a car. This is usually 21 years, but some companies rent to drivers ages 18 and older. However, the fact that they will rent to drivers this young does not mean that they are given equal treatment!
In most cases the company will charge an additional fee to drivers under their age limit. In most cases this means that car rental under 25 is going to cost you up to $25 more per day than for an older driver. In this way, the companies can cover their tails and able to balance the risk they take by renting to less experienced drivers.
Of course not all car rental companies charge such exorbitant fees. Also, often this fee is the first thing to go in a discount package. For example, government and military renters have the fee waived altogether and simply have set a minimum age. Also, there are often deals available with companies that offer you a free second driver or waiving of the underage fee.
There are certain companies that simply do not charge a fee for car rental under 25, and there are also companies that simply don’t rent to people in this age group, so there is no hard and fast rule as to what you will find when looking for a rental. Still, it is generally the case that you will pay a fee.
If you are looking to rent a car and are under the age of 25, you might want to look out on websites of various car companies for special offers that may include a waiving of the fee. This can really save you a lot of money, especially if you are planning to rent the car for an extended period of time, as the daily fees can really add up.
While you really have to plan to pay a fee if you are renting a car and are under the age of 25, keep in mind that you should still keep your eye out for companies that don’t impose such a fee, or special offers from companies that do to waive the fee.
